Commune of Rouze Altitude: 730 m Location: in Donezan bordering Aude Number of inhabitants: 88 Distances: Quérigut 5 km, Ax-les-Thermes 56 km The name of the village comes from the Occitan Rossa, which means redhead , because the mountain which overlooks Rouze is red in color throughout the winter, due to the oaks with semi-evergreen leaves. This is the gateway to Donezan coming from Aude, the lower commune of the canton. You can get there by passing through Usson-les-Bains, located on the Aude and corresponding to a hamlet in Rouze. Usson is particularly known for its thermal spa present until the beginning of the sixties, and especially for the ruins of its castle (listed as historical monuments). Not far from the castle, there is the Grande Randonnée 7 (GR7) trail in the Mirepoix - Andorra la Vella stage. The Rialet electrical plant is supplied by a local dam, as well as that of Noubals and by various catchments on the Bruyante and the Artigues stream. The church of Rouze, dedicated to Saint-Nazaire and Saint-Celse, located at the top of the village, the house of the justice of the peace or the barns district are among the places to visit in Rouze. Town hall opening hours: Monday and Friday: 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Wednesday: 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
