The highest peak in the Ariège mountains is the 3000 m Pic du Montcalm. The Ariège Pyrenees boast a remarkable and sometimes endemic biodiversity, with forests, wetlands and beautiful summer meadows, high altitude pastures grazed by flocks of sheep, cows and horses.
