Very easy
  • The feudal castle of Miglos, linked to Cathar history, stands in imposing ruins visible from the lower Vicdessos Valley. The Association des Amis du Château de Miglos (Friends of Miglos Castle Association) has designed this interpretive trail as an opportunity to visit the historic site.

  • Road access: south of Tarascon, take the D8 towards Vicdessos. At the end of the village of Niaux, turn left after the church, then right on the D156. Pass Baychon. At the entrance to Arquizat, park on the right in the parking lot.
  • Guidebook with maps/step-by-step
    (D) - From the parking lot at the entrance to Arquizat (755 m), cross the D156. Opposite, take the gently rising road on the right. In the village, rue Qua Toureil takes you to the forecourt of the Arquizat church. Go back down to the D156, just ahead, and turn right onto the D256 down to Capoulet.

15 min - You're at Castèlh (on your right). This charming, modest château was the last home of the lords of Miglos.
Just beyond it, on your right, leave the road for the pathway that climbs up to the north. It returns N.W. and then winds its way up the hillside, sometimes offering a beautiful view of the Vicdessos valley.

35 min - You're already at the foot of Miglos castle. Now is the time to approach the famous "Castro de Miglos". Once you've done that, retrace your steps a little and go down to the picnic area on the edge of the D156. Pass the picnic area and reach its northern edge: then plunge into the undergrowth towards the path. A right-hand bend takes you back to the main road. Cross it and aim for the steep path in the embankment. Once you've climbed the small hill on the Baychon path, move on a little. You soon leave the Baychon path and turn right, south towards the village. At the top of the steep slope (801 m), you're at the end of your walk and out of the woods. The path shifts to a low wall and continues downhill. It descends, rises a little and glides to the edge of the cemetery. You rejoin the D156 and soon find your starting point on the left.
