Ferme aquacole Truite de l'Aston

Fish, Producer in Les Cabannes
  • The Chutes de l'Aston fish farm specializes in raising trout in the fresh waters of the Aston Valley.

  • The Chutes d'Aston fish farm is first and foremost a magnificent, unspoilt setting in the heart of the Aston Valley, at the foot of the Plateau de Beille.

    Established in 1952, the farm has always enjoyed an excellent reputation, partly for the quality of the water it feeds (direct supply from the Aston river and numerous mountain lakes thanks to an extensive hydrographic network upstream), and partly for the environment in which it is located.

    The Chutes d'Aston fish farm is first and foremost a magnificent, unspoilt setting in the heart of the Aston Valley, at the foot of the Plateau de Beille.

    Established in 1952, the farm has always enjoyed an excellent reputation, partly for the quality of the water it feeds (direct supply from the Aston river and numerous mountain lakes thanks to an extensive hydrographic network upstream), and partly for the environment in which it is located.

    This unique environment enables Aston trout to benefit from growth conditions close to those of their wild cousins.

    Taken over in 2017 by Morgan Catala and Amandine Lafon, the farm is now enjoying a new lease of life.

    * Life cycle and diet :
    The Aston trout has a long life cycle, necessary for balanced growth, close to the wild state. This long growth is partly due to the very cool water temperatures (between 0 and 14°) and to a well-considered diet.

    The fish are fed by hand. Feed rations are calculated according to average weights in each tank.

    Its diet is essentially composed of fish flesh, but in order to respect its basic diet, it also feeds on the micro-organisms and insects that the river is naturally rich in.

    * Work on the farm:
    The daily work of the "production team" is to take care of the trout and ensure their well-being: water management, oxygen measurements in the water, hand-feeding and the gentlest possible handling.
    A sorter and a mechanical fish pump allow us to be immersed in the water all the time and therefore less stressed.

    Our day-to-day work has only one aim: to offer products of the highest quality, with a farming method that respects the environment.
