Situated at an altitude of 1800 m above the village of Luzenac, Trimouns is the world's largest talc quarry in operation, and the only one in France. The view of the Pyrenees is unique: on a clear day, you can see the Bonascre plateau, the Beille plateau, the Pic du Tarbésou and the Pic du Montcalm!
You can discover this unique place on a guided tour. Our guides will reveal all the secrets of this unusual place and how it works. You'll discover the geological properties of the deposit, the history of its formation and exploitation, from extraction to production of this veritable white gold. All in a sumptuous natural setting! You'll enter the very heart of the mining site by bus.
The guided tour lasts around 1 hour, with several stops planned at key points around the site. A discovery that's sure to leave a lasting impression!
Reservations for the guided tour of the quarry are required. The price includes a guided tour of the quarry and access to the museum in Luzenac.
Please note: as the quarry is located at an altitude of 1800m, visits are only possible in good weather conditions. In the event of bad weather, visits may be cancelled at short notice. In the event of inclement weather, please contact our reservations department at 0561051010 before visiting the quarry to confirm that the tour will take place. As the cancellation of tours is weather-related, every effort is made to contact those who have booked as far in advance of the tour as possible.
Allow 30 to 45 minutes for your vehicle to get from the Talcaneô museum in Luzenac to the talc quarry parking lot.

A brand-new 400m² talc museum has been opened in Luzenac. An immersive, fun place that reveals all the secrets of talc and the story of the men and women who built this fabulous industrial epic in the Ariège!
This space invites you to discover the world of talc, from its extraction to its transformation, thanks to a tour featuring a number of visual and entertaining features. In a dedicated area, you can follow talc as if you were there, from its extraction to its arrival in your home, thanks to a 180° screen. Immersion awaits young and old alike, with interactive displays to guide you along the way!
The guided tour of the quarry also includes a visit to the museum in Luzenac.

Guided tours of the quarry by coach - RESERVATION REQUIRED
July 8 to November 5: open Monday to Friday (6 visits per day).
Closed on Wednesdays outside school vacations and public holidays.
Museum area:
July 8 to August 27: open Mondays, 10am to 12pm and 2pm to 7pm; open Tuesdays to Sundays, 10am to 7pm.
August 28 to November 5: open daily from 10am to 12:30pm and 2pm to 6pm, closed on Wednesdays outside school vacations.
