Fine examples of Vauban know-how in Donezan
Above the village of Rouze, two fine stone constructions, the Vauban bridges, stand on the old Donezan access road, known as the Route Royale, Chemin des Canons or Chemin de Vauban. After the Treaty of the Pyrenees in 1659, Louis XIV ordered the construction of the Mont-Louis fort to defend the new border with Spain. The two Vauban bridges were consolidated and restored in 1996 as part of the first phase of heritage conservation and enhancement work.
