Guided tours of SCOP Filature de Niaux, where we will passionately present our work as we follow the path of the wool. You'll discover our washing process using canal water, spinning and carding with machines from the 50s and 60s.
Located in the heart of the Ariege Pyrenees, Filature de Niaux is an artisanal company that has preserved its century-old know-how. Since 1867, it has been making the most of one of the noblest and most local materials: sheep's wool. It is unique in the whole of Occitanie. It is an essential link in the development of local wools. Indeed, it is unique in that it controls all stages of processing, from raw wool to yarn. Wool can be washed, carded and spun.
Threatened with extinction, a takeover project was launched in 2015. It led to the creation of SCOP Filature de Niaux in 2020, which bought the buildings and began work on refurbishing the site and bringing the machines up to standard. By the end of 2021, all processing stages are operational.
We are a team of enthusiasts from a variety of backgrounds, and we are driven by all aspects of managing a production facility: preserving know-how and developing sustainable, renewable materials locally.
