The CIMaE (Climatic Impact on Mountain Aquatic Ecosystems) project, led by France Nature Environnement, is encouraging people who enjoy mountain activities to record these pools during their outings and monitor changes in their hydrology.
We know that the mountains are changing. Glaciers are retreating, the seasons are shifting, and certain habitats are quietly disappearing. High-altitude ponds are among them: these small ecosystems, true treasure troves of biodiversity, are under serious threat from global warming.
The procedure is simple, quick and open to everyone. It aims to study the impacts of global warming on small high-altitude ponds, so that we can better protect them.
