On March 23, 1939, the Izourt dam disaster took place. Some thirty workers, most of them Italian, died in tragic circumstances. The aim of this association is to rehabilitate these victims and maintain the duty of remembrance.
The Izourt disaster occurred on March 23, 1939. On that day, 31 workers, including 29 Italians, working on the construction of the Izourt dam (above Auzat) died in tragic circumstances due to extreme weather conditions. At the dawn of the Second World War, these dead were forgotten until 2003, when a few people wished to rehabilitate these victims and maintain the duty of remembrance. To this end, they created the Ricordate-Izourt association, with the support of the Italian consul in Toulouse and representatives of the Italian immigrant community in the Midi-Pyrénées.

Since then, numerous actions, tributes, exchanges and Franco-Italian friendship events have been organized, notably with the Veneto, Friuli and Piedmont regions, the birthplaces of the victims. In 2024, the association will celebrate its 20th anniversary and the 85th anniversary of the disaster, in the presence of victims' families, Italian authorities, association partners (elected representatives, EDF, volunteers, etc.) and local residents.
