Etsuko begins recounting her memories thirty years earlier, during her first pregnancy, when she befriended the loneliest of her neighbors, Sachiko, a young widow raising her daughter alone. As they talk, the writer notices a certain discrepancy in her mother's memories... the ghosts of her past still seem to be there - silent, but tenacious.
Based on the novel by Kazuo Ishiguro - winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature.
