The Aqueduct

(D/A) - Climb some 200m towards the village. Before the bend, the Pont de Marc bridge takes you over the Artigue stream. A few metres after the bridge, turn left onto the paved path taken by the GR10. Take the stairs on the right and, just after, turn right again to find the hamlet square. Go around the edge of the square and look left for the path ahead. In a bend to the left, a path coming from the right, all in yellow, will take you back to the banks of the Vicdessos: so continue to the left. Cross the road and continue along the path. You're now on the road. Follow it upwards, leaving the route de Villeneuve on your left 20m further on. Continue straight ahead.

0h30 - PYLONE DES TOUTOUS (1100m). To the left, you pass into the Vicdessos valley; you soon come to the old aqueduct, which runs along the side of the valley. Cross the Argansou stream using the handrail. You pass the old buildings.

1h50 - INTERSECTION DU CHEMIN DE MASSADA. You reach the intersection. Leave the canal and the part of the GR10 that climbs Bassiès. Turn right down the hairpin. You'll reach the EDF track, which you'll have to take down...

2h20 - PONT DE GERS (923m). Before the bridge, the path from Samizou to Hourré, grassy and wide under Douméjou, turns gently to the right, on the left bank. Begin the ascent between the low wall and the Vicdessos. You come to a small hamlet, stay on the left bank, keep going straight and you come to the hamlet of Hourré. Descend on the tarmac for about 100m, bringing you closer to the Vicdessos. The path continues, still on the left bank. Don't miss the Sarrizou bridge, which takes you back to the D8...
