Description
"Discovering the Orris" are dry-stone huts that are emblematic of shepherds’ lives. These unique ruins offer a fascinating glimpse into the region’s pastoral history.
With the Friends of the Park and the PNR...
Before the dam was built, this area was occupied by numerous families throughout the summer months.
However, some of the orris are still perfectly preserved, thanks to a rehabilitation campaign that has brought an entire village back into use, explaining the functions of each orri.
You'll find them just a few dozen meters from the Carla parking lot after the Soulcem dam.
At the Maison des Patrimoines in Auzat, you'll also find more detailed information on pastoralism. A book entitled orris, written by Jean Besset, is on sale at the Ariege Pyrenees Tourist Office.
